Old cabinet with Christian carved figures

For many years, I thought the large cabinet (jpg attached), was from Mexico or South America. A friend recently pointed out that all of the faces that are hand carved have Asian facial features. The cabinet is at least 200 years old. Has anyone any information that can help identify where is originated. This piece was purchased by my mother during her world wide travels in the 70-80s. I could not include all three panels in the image location provided. Happy to send in a separate query.
