Perhaps this solves the mystery. The available data are very incomplete and sometimes contradictory. I managed to unravel the followings.
Painter's signature,
松洞之龜城老人 - Shōdō no Kijō-rōjin - Old Man of Turtle Castle from Shōdō
Upper seal,
奥陽宗古 - Okuyō Sōko
Lower seal,

Imscription on box,

His year of birth and death unknown.
a.k.a. Itō Kijō (Turtle Castle) 1st. gen. 伊藤龜城
He was one of the disciples of Matsuura Shōdō 松浦松洞 1837-1862
