Japanese porcelain blanks were decorated by ornamentation factories in Hong Kong during the 3rd Quarter of the 20th century, according to gotheborg.com. I believe it is germane to products like your bowl, that in 1949, during the post-World War-II era, the Western Powers formed an international organization called CoCom (the Coordinating Committee), which established limits on trade between the West and communist nations, including the former Soviet Union and China. CoCom nations imposed heavy tariffs on communist goods and banned sale of strategic technology to the communist bloc. British-dominated Hong Kong's porcelain ornamentation workshops appear from the timing of it to have avoided CoCom infractions by switching to Japanese porcelain suppliers instead of those on the China Mainland. US President Nixon's trip to China in 1972 marked the beginning of softer CoCom sanctions on Chinese goods, as did the collapse of the former Soviet Union. CoCom remains functional nowadays from headquarters in Paris.

Best regards,

Bill H
