British-dominated Hong Kong's porcelain ornamentation workshops appear from the timing of it to have avoided CoCom infractions by switching to Japanese porcelain suppliers instead of those on the China Mainland. US President Nixon's trip to China in 1972 marked the beginning of softer CoCom sanctions on Chinese goods, as did the collapse of the former Soviet Union. CoCom remains functional nowadays from headquarters in Paris.
