Seal signature on Satsuma vase |
Posted By: Howard Reed Posted Date: Aug 16, 2024 (04:58 AM) |
Message Hello Board members, I have an interesting antique Satsuma vase with a black seal signature on the base that has me totally foxed. It is a small baluster vase (about 155 mm tall) with traditional bird and flower decoration and a little gosu blue enamel. I judge it to date around the 1890s. Attached are three photos, of the front and rear of the vase and the seal on the base. From the angle of the brushstrokes, I think I have the seal the right side up. Anyone care to decipher it for me, or even hazard a guess? Kind regrads, Howard |
