Chinese 18th c lacquer plates - translation of poem |
Posted By: TimG Posted Date: May 26, 2020 (08:16 PM) |
Message Could someone offer a translation of the poems on these plates, and if the verses come from a famous poem? The plates look to be 18th c, with nicely rendered depictions of peach and pomegranate- perhaps two plates from a larger set. What raises my curiosity is the paper label on the back that appear to date to 19070-80's, showing the plates were priced at $135 each. Seems like an extraordinary price at that time, so I'm wondering if the poems are in part responsible for the high price tag. Thank you. |
