Hi,

Can someone advise whether calling price on 5 Tang Dynasty Vases at US$800,000. is too much?

Regards

Dear Sir,
to my opinion each price you call for things, which are not described or of which no
photos can be seen,is too high.Age for its own
does not make a piece valuable.

I agree with Mr Schroeder that there is no correlation with age and automatic price. Within the spectrum of Tang jars or vases price can range from a few hundred dollars or less - Christie's New York, The Falk Collection Part II September 2001 (sale actually in October) Lot 412 a group of four Tang jarlets sold for $1,880. Or compare with with one of the rarest forms of Tang xingyao proto porcelain jar coming up for sale at Sotheby's New York, March 27 in Fine Chinese Ceramics and WOA, lot 39 with an estimate of $80,000 - 120,000. Tang wares in particular, though earlier than Song or MIng wares are in general less desired and garner lower prices in the market than for example Song guan, ru, geyao and ding wares. Excellent examples of Ming blue and white, underglaze copper red are much higher in value than Tang stoneware. And the highest prices for Chinese ceramics met at auction are in the area of early 18th century Yongzheng polychrome porcelains, 1000 years later than Tang pieces (record set last year for Yongzheng plate -HK$32,542,100).
