This may be a long shot. I am looking for inforamation about a Japanese potter name "Takiguchi" I have a group of his/her works, looks from 1980's -90's in style. I was told she showed her artworks in a NY gallery then.
Many Thanks

Hi kk,

One of the most famous contemporary Japanese potters/ceramic sculptors is Takiguchi Kazuo. He exhibits frequently in New York as well as Japan. Unfortunately (since his works sell in the $1000 range), your pieces are not by him. His, though semi-abstract like yours, are much more heavily textured and they are hardly ever signed (the boxes of course are); or when they are signed it's certainly not in western script. I'll attach a couple of pictures of two of his simpler pieces; the grey one is kind of interesting because it has only two legs.

I like your too: they have a nice balance and elegance. Presumably they've been made by a potter working in or for the north American market. I hope you're able to find out who s/he is.

Best,

Will

I don't think the style match Takiguchi Kazuo. A ebay seller said they are by Barbara Takiguchi, but I can find any info about her on the internet.

Your pieces are by Barb Takiguchi. She was a talented ceramicist during that time period but she was forced to retire from clay due to illness. She used to live in the San Francisco bay area but I believe she is now in New Mexico.
