Purchased in the late 1960s, probably in Taipeh. What does the inscription say, any idea how to authenticate if it is an original? Thank you

Qi Baishi

Upper seal,
齊大　Qi Da
Lower seal,
Corner seal,
The imprint is too faint to read

* Pseudonym - name of the study built by the artist in his hometown

Qi Baishi 1867-1957
Because Qi Baishi was a prolific and popular artist, many imitations and forgeries were produced even during his lifetime. The artist is known to have painted several other works depicting eagles in similar poses. Today, determining wether the piece you are having is authentic would require a careful nake eyed examination of the brushwork,the quality of paper, the signature and seals etc. by a professional.
I recommend that you contact a reputable auction house.

My hometown lacks such divine favor

According to several Chinese language net sources this seal was engraved by the artist in 1930, expressing his gratitude to Beijing (the capital) for enabling his art and livelihood.

imitation of Qi's work. he was known to paint the same subjects multiple times, and I am guessing that your picture is based on one of his originals. here's one of his better known examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Standing_on_Pine_Tree

I would not be able to form an opinion based on your small photo. So of course I also could not dismiss it so easily. you could load pics up to 500kb now.
Calligraphy and details of the brushwork in the pine tree and the eagle could help.
