Posted By: Chelsea Wed, Mar 25, 2026 IP: 76.238.198.207

Hello,

I'm unable to determine the artist of this Chinese scroll painting. I have found several works that bear the same image by various artist but none matched the seals. Any help is appreciated. Thank you for all the help already provided.

Thanks,
Chelsea

Wang Su 王素 was a 19th century painter whose actual style is hard to pin down because of the number of copies vs reliable works (eg here are 55 works attributed to him that show a wide variety of 19th century styles, but emphasizing figures https://www.sohu.com/a/222336085_439969). For me, the artificial aging/distressing here, the calligraphy, and the combination of colors point to this being a recent imitation. The trees seem interesting though; compare to Wen Zhengming's cypresses (Wen was a Ming painter).
