Any help identifying the age and possible culture and symbolism and use of this jade piece would be appreciated

This is a lithic immitation of hogshan jade eagle/owl pendant.There is a lot of it in the 20th century market. Its true that the original ones have hollows, but quite different of this one.

Hongshan (4700 - 2900 BC) or Han (206 BC - 220 AD).

Chances of it being a "modern imitation"? Practically ZERO.

Contrary to what the previous commenter said, there's really no modern reproductions of Hongshan (or Han) artifacts on the artifact market.

This piece looks on the large side. How much does it weigh?

Your comment that there are no hongshan reproductions in the market place today is both ludicrous and obsurb.
