Posted By: Renato Sat, Mar 22, 2025 IP: 177.140.12.187

Hi my dear asian arts forum

This is another unsetling cursive kanji inscription I bring to you guys. I have just crop the inscription part because of the image weight.

I thought it could have the sentence like:
ひのの庭 - Hino no niwa - The garden of the rising sun

But I am not sure. Any ideas?
Thank you in advance
Renato

(と)おくは Tōku wa
來る kuru
雲も kumo mo
なしことや nashi koto ya
あとの雁こへはし ato no karigoe wa shi-
あい ai

There are no clouds coming from afar,
and the cry of the geese echoing behind.

For technical reasons the alternative kanas are reproduced in their modern forms.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Nagy,

Are you Japanese? Such an enviable skill!!! I don’t know how to thank you enough — I absolutely LOVE these surimono! It’s such a delicate and perfect fusion of words and imagery, and I’m truly captivated by them. The Asian Art Forum is help me a lot!

I’ve recently started building my own collection. For now, I’ve been purchasing cheap woodblockprints, netsuke, okimono and scrolls from auctions here in my country, as I’m not yet confident buying from abroad. However, I’m planning a trip to Japan next year, and I’m determined to return with my bags packed full of treasures! Until then, I know I need to keep pushing myself to grow. がんばて ください! Hum? One of my biggest goals is to improve my cursive reading skills so I can fully appreciate the artistry in works like these.

Thank you again for your kindness and for sharing such a meaningful piece with me.

Warm regards from Brazil,
Renato
