Dear Pascal,

I am not completely sure, but here are some first tracks... Would be wonderful to hear from others who know this kind of work better than me.

This seams to me a Japanese humorous painting (possibly allegorical, satirical - Is it a Kyōgen comic drama as I think?) likely belonging to the late Edo period, possibly in the toba-e (とば絵) or kyōga (狂画) style—genres that emphasized caricature, satire, or comic illustration. The bird (perhaps a symbol of folly or trickery) flies between them. The figures echo the style of works by Soga Shōhaku or Itō Jakuchū. I really do not know nothing about it, but is possible painted by 春風 伊藤 — Shunpū Itō. Dated 己未 (tsuchinoto-hitsuji) — Zodiac year 1859. 一極
為丸蔵志濱郎分好尚亭付
春風 伊藤画
己未(年)

一極 — "A Performance" or "One Act"/"A Skit" (this is often used in Kyōgen or comic theatrical contexts). 為丸蔵志濱郎 分好尚亭付 — "Dedicated to Maruzō Shihamurō (or Hamurō?) of the Bunko Shōtei Residence".

I hope someone could correct some imperfections above, I am just a african-brazilian japanese language student who loves japanese and african art. Thank you for post it.
Have a nice weekend,
Renato Araújo
