Posted By: Bill H Fri, Apr 28, 2023 The bowl has a six-character apocryphal mark of 'Made during the Kangxi reign of the Great Qing Dynasty' (Da qing Kang xi nian zhi). In my opinion, the uneven brushwork of the mark is incompatible with that reign period (1662-1722) and the almost unblemished dragon motif suggests it may not be painted but applied by transfer. Stroke characteristics in the mark do seem to me to be similar to some seen in the Guangxu period (1875-1908) and warrant a dating of circa 1900 or somewhat later. |
