Subject:Fish bowl
Posted By: Tony W. Wed, Feb 15, 2023 IP: 23.243.126.110

Dear friends,
It's a 2-piece fish bowl (18" in diameter) with painting of children and writings.
Would love to have your help on the meaning of the seals / writings and input on the period, PLEASE!

Many thanks :)

Tony

It took me a while to randomly search online and figured out the 4-word red seal.
I would owe great gratitude and thanks to the expert / scholar like I. Nagy and others for the help with the translation on the writings on the side, PLEASE!
Much appreciated :)

Tony

The red mark in the square border reads Made at Jingdezhen" (Jingdezhen Zhi). Gotheborg.com shows a similar mark in red, albeit in a single-lined border, estimated to date to the mid-1990s. This mark uses a brighter red enamel so looks to be later. I.Nagy would know better, but I believe the last two stacks at the left of the inscription indicates the vase was made at Jingdezhen after the new century dawned in the "Onset of winter" (Lidong - 立冬 - 7th-21st November) in the cyclical "Gengchen Year" (庚辰 - 17th in the 60 year cycle), which came around last in the year 2000.

Best regards,

Bill H.
