Posted By: Bill H Mon, Nov 14, 2022 Deng Bishan was executed at Jingdezhen in 1930 by guerrilla troops under Chinese communist military leader Fang Zhimin. The cyclical year that fell the year before in 1929 was "Jisi" (己巳), which I've seen in inscriptions on other fish-pattern porcelains attributed to Deng that appear likely to be posthumously produced Republic-era "tributes" by other painters. I mention this because your vase on the left of the first photo appears to bear the "Jisi" date. These vases are quite attractive and I'm not suggesting you throw them out, However, I suggest you make a set of high quality photos of them with closeups of the inscriptions and fish motifs to submit to a major auctioneer like Christie's or Sotheby's for an appraisal of auction potential. If they reject your submission it can be taken as a strong sign that they recognize them as later repros and not likely to draw high bids. |
