Posted By: Madria Fri, Sep 16, 2022 Based on the dispersion of motifes I would say this dates much later, probably to the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The low quality of your photo makes it hard to determine though. |

Posted By: alexander Sun, Sep 18, 2022 Thank you for the response but than i draw the conclusion that it must bee a replica because the patern is of the han dynasty . i have found another but that one is of white metal/white bronze as it should be. and as you mentioned the quality is not very good of this example. sorry for the low quality photo. |
Subject:Re: han dynasty mirror??
Posted By: Madria Mon, Sep 19, 2022 I have concerns myself and have therefore reconsidered my answer. I am still of the opinion that the mirror was not made in the Han dynasty, but rather refers to it referentially in the motifs. Nevertheless, dating it to the Ming period is of course extremely untypical and much too late unless it is a modern replica. After further research, I found a mirror from the Tang period that is comparable to yours in many respects. I am cautiously optmistic that perhaps the solution can be found here. However, as I said before, it is very difficult to date bronzes from photos on the internet, as they do not give any information about weight, shaping and so on. I hope I have been able to help and provide new food for thought. |
