Subject:Age of Imari ware?
Posted By: Paul Wed, Sep 14, 2022 IP: 12.23.214.140

Hi, this piece is unmarked. Is there any way of identifying its age or origin? Is it less valuable than a marked piece?

Looks late 19th or 20th century, Meiji period or later to me. Consider that Hizen porcelain was generally unmarked until the Meiji era with the notable exception of ko Kutani, which often bore a "fu-ku" (good luck) mark. Unfortunately, marks/signatures are often more highly valued by collectors than artistic merit.

If Hizen ware wasn’t marked until the Meiji period, wouldn’t that indicate the piece is Edo period?

This dish is not Edo in my opinion. The above date is correct. Best wishes
