Subject:Translation request for unusual Japanese bowl
Posted By: Clifford Khoi Huynh Sat, Sep 10, 2022 IP: 97.120.171.199

Hi everyone.
Could someone please be able to translate this bowl for me? Nagy if you do, thank you very much.
Also any info about it would be appreciated. It has chrysanthemums but I’m not sure what the other marks are.
Also what’s up with the yellow tint it has?

This bowl appears to be made in late Edo period Satsuma style, but might easily be a later reproduction. Could the side motifs might be stylized lotus blossoms?

Regards Madria

The mark reads: Shunko 春光 Sei 製 (made by Shunko).

This is a mark of Kato Shunko 1st.
Around 1875 he established a pottery in Seto (Aichi Prefecture) and started to export Seto ware around 1881-1882.
Regards,
Martin.

Additional information on the symbols used: these are japnese crests (called Kamon) Kiri Mon, Kiku Mon and another one as of yet unidentified (similar to the one of Mitsuwari Itayagai)
