Subject:Small Chinese Bronze Vessel; Cast-In Signature, Ring Handles
Posted By: Warren L. Sun, Apr 17, 2022 IP: 24.113.25.199

~5" max. diameter, ~2⅝" high, ~13½ ounces;
signature block ~⅞" wide x ~¾" high.

The appearance is not of Japanese origin, to my untrained eye.
The two handles may have had loose rings or other parts, now missing.
I will very much appreciate any comments about your impression of this pot, as well as a translation of the signature please...which I will acknowledge with gratitude.
Thank you! Warren

The standard character mark on this bronze reads down and across from the top right as "Da Ming Xuande nian zhi" - "Made during the Xuande Reign of the Great Ming Dynasty". The piece definitely was not made during the Ming Dynasty, because the "De" character used during the Ming era, as shown in the following comparison, lacks a horizontal stroke between its"Eyes" and "Heart" elements: 德/徳

The mark appears from its imperfections to have been produced from a secondary casting, suggesting it could well be a 20th century piece because the Xuande Reign saw some of the best bronzes cast during the dynasty.
Best regards,
Bill H.

Thanks! There's certainly no quality in the piece, especially since there's a major repair from the inside of a tear a couple inches long in the wall. I didn't include a pic of that...but will, if asked. I agree about the secondary casting probability...a piece of junk, destined for the scrap bin. My gratitude, good sir! Warren
