I have this Chinese vanity box, it looks like hongmu? Can someone
help with age approximately?

Ja, Hongmu for sure.
Not that helpful though is it, after all there are 32 species of hongmu on the Chinese National Register, Some quite light, some almost black, some sink in water - others don't. Some look like Jichimu, some look like Teilimu. Some look like Zitan, and that's because Zitan is one of the species called Hongmu. So is Laohuali, so is Huanghuali, so is Huali, so is Hainan fake Huali (that Wang Shixiang seems to think is the actual Huanghuali, and also seems to enjoy plagarising botanists documents from the 1940s - EVEN THOUGH - that very botanist and Gustav Ecke - giant of the giants we all stand on the shoulders of - warned.. Huanan Huali is "a completely different species" to the huali of the Ming Dynasty) and take it from me - there are numerous unlisted spp too. Species to date undocumented, and spp that are now extinct. So > as to the question: Is it Hongmu?

Mmmm - Yes! certainly. Without aany doubt - but, & crucially here - your question, and the answer to your question - are not even wrong, & should still leave you questioning what it actually is.
