Subject:Jadeite Significance and Original Purpose - Age
Posted By: Jerry Fri, Dec 24, 2021 IP: 24.209.216.178

I purchased this Jadeite piece at a local estate auction. It has been certified as Jadeite - A Jade by Mason Kay.
I am interested in what the carving was originally intended, and any insight into the age of the carving.
I know it is set in 18K gold, and the diamonds are about 1/2 carat total weight.
The measurements are on the certification document.

In my opinion, the carving could be a stylized fish. As far as the piece itself, this style was popular in the 1960s. The carvings were typically made for the piece of jewelry. I just sold one this year in carved coral (see photo). Yours is a very nice example.

Thank You Steve Gridley. I wasn't sure because of the shape. I thought maybe it could have been used as some type of garment closure. I think it is pretty heavy for a pendant or a brooch. The setting accommodates either way to wear it.

I realized the dimensions on the cert are hard to read. The dimensions are in mm: 63.13 X 24.44 X 9.15
Total weight is 44.54 grams

I think it's a fish.
Looks to be as already posted circa 60's.
Nice jadeite jade brooch.

Thank You Mark@imperial. I guess in the absence of any other description, I will call it a fish.
