Posted By: Fred Wed, Nov 17, 2021 IP: 2001:8003:dd24:d701:

Hi Members
Any info would be appreciated about this Chinese box, does anyone know the company that made these and when?
should this one be cleaned or left as it is?
may be a personal choice.

Fred.

Late 19th C. to 1930s. No particular maker. Made in Shanghai or other large coastal Chinese city. Don't polish it. It looks clean enough. I like these, and have a few.

Hello Paul
Many thanks for the info, fantastic,we may find maker one day,I feel an interesting box to add to my box collection of small boxes. (English,French,German,Italian,Japanese, etc)
I feel these ones are underrated and the quality is very good.
I have decided to clean it(personal choice)

Hello Paul
I feel I may have found the possible maker of these boxes. The factory was called Laotianli.
Folk Cloisonne workshops ,During the Guangxu-Republic of China included Laotianli and others ,this company was the most famous.

The information comes from a signed plate ,that has a similar style, you will notice the little clouds
are the same as on my box.

I will post some pictures in a few posts.

Regards Fred.

Thanks for that, Fred.

Here's a Chinese & Japanese cloisonne cloud pattern date identifier that you may find useful.

Hi Paul
Great work, many thanks handy chart, have not seen this before.
great for dating items.
signed pieces also give us a clue to the unsigned ones ,comparing designs and cloud shapes.
that's how discovered the maker of my box.

Fred.
