Subject:Old wine jar? What does inscribed calligraphy say?
Posted By: Jeff R. Wed, Nov 17, 2021 IP: 170.75.139.3 I bought this vase. I believe it is an old wine jar. Not sure if Japanese or Chinese, or what the inscribed (carved) calligraphy says. I found two pieces of paper inside. See photos. Any idea on the artist and possibly when made? I will have to reply a few times to get all the photos added. |

Posted By: robert Thu, Nov 18, 2021 It appears to be a Japanese ko Seto ware heishi. The attached image shows a similar heishi. These were originally made in the Kamakura period, and the early ones are very rare and valuable. Not surprisingly, there are many modern imitations such as the one I pictured. |
