Subject:Chinese plate with birds on a blooming tree
Posted By: PascalCH Sat, Nov 06, 2021 IP: 2001:1715:9d9e:b910: Hello everyone, I recently bought this plate. The size is 26X4cm. Is it possible, Based on the design and pictures, to confirm the origin (China) the period and if it has any value, beside being decorative :-) |

Posted By: Bill H Sat, Nov 06, 2021 This was a utilitarian dish in its time and has some cracking to prove it. Jean McClure Mudge shows a reconstructed dish in the same pattern as dating to circa 1825 in her 1986 book on Chinese Export Porcelain in North America. However, later editions and modern copies of the pattern can be poorly painted. The cracks and the fact that the Chinese exported such dishes in great numbers will impair its antique market value, but if you didn't pay much more than US$50 for this one, it should hold its value and it maybe even increase over time. |
