Subject:Japanese 20th century blue & white bowl with commemorative inscription
Posted By: Bill H Thu, Oct 07, 2021 IP: 2601:342:200:6e70:28

Many of my friends and fellow Asian porcelain collectors and dealers favor me with requests for comment which like this one turn out to be intriguing enough to follow up on despite my lack of Japanese language expertise. This following query pertains to the apparent late 20th century Japanese blue and white basket form bowl pictured here with a commemorative marking for an apparent wedding celebrated 19 November 1966 on the Western calendar or in the 41st year of the Showa reign under the late Emperor Hirohito. I'd appreciate any and all comments and especially those of I.Nagy, as to whether any of the names might be recognizable as having held public or military office.

Much obliged,

Bill H.

Readings,
結婚記念 - Kekkon kinen - Wedding souvenir
瑞晃 - Mizuki - Given name of groom
昌子 - Masako (Other possible readings; Shoko or Akiko) - Given name of bride
昭和四十一年十一月十九日 - 41st Year of Showa Reign (1966) November 19.
琴峰作 - Kotomine -saku - Made by Kotomine

Kotomine is the name of a kiln in Arita.
This dyed mesh confectionary bowl is a typical "hikidemono" or present given to guests at the wedding receptions. In case of larger number of invited guests a special order can be placed to the manufacturer.

With regards,
I.Nagy
