Subject:Help needed with Chinese miniture figurine - what is it ?
Posted By: Udo B. Tue, Sep 21, 2021 IP: 114.198.14.137

I am unable to find info on this object. I belief it could be from around 1920's (but not sure). It is solid and heavy for its size, no markings except the fingerprints of the maker on the base, very visible. It reminds me of a Tang styled female figurine but obviously not of that period. Does anybody in this Forum have any clue what it might be and what purpose it served. I don't belief it is a Bonsai Figurine, it must have some other significance. Thank you for any help.
Kind Regards, Udo

Your figure is Shekwan mudware. Rather than reiterate, I recommend the following website:

Dear Steve
Thank you so much for taking the time and providing me with your input. I missed mentioning in the post that I have looked into mudmen and spent long hours comparing photos. I have read the article you gave me in that link and I found it very informative. The clay figurine is 95% non glazed, maybe some glaze to hair and the arm end on the cloak, (brown colors only) all else is non glazed, the different clay's have a natural glitter to them. I have also looked into Bonsai Figurines, very similar too. Kind Regards, Udo
