Deng Bishan 1874-1930
Tiejianzi (Iron shoulder) - pseudonym
One of the "Eight Friends of Zhushan), renowned for his fish and algae paintings.
Deng Bishan's familie-rose fish alage porcelain painting is the first of its kind in porcelain at literaty painting.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Mr Nagy is correct with the artist name.
However his works are heavily copied.
I believe yours is also a good copy.
The styling of the calligraphy is imo not correct.

Please see below two pictures of Deng Bishan porcelain panel in the China Institute Exhibition "The early phase of modernism"The panel is from the collection of Chen Haibo.

Please also see third picture of Framed porcelain fish plaque here in question to compare. As you can see the styling of the calligraphy of the Framed porcelain fish plaque here in question, matches favourably, the panel from the collection of Chen Haibo. Also both panels have the square intaglio Dengshi seal mentioned in the exhibition.

Deng Bishan was born in 1874 and died in 1930. He was a member of the "Eight Friends of Zhushan", the premier group of porcelain painters at Jingdezhen during the early 20th century. His painting style and subject matter, particularly fish amidst waterweeds, are iconic of Chinese families with many sons.

When I spot alleged works by famous Chinese porcelain artists that are dated virtually to the eve of the artist's death, I'm automatically suspicious of the possibility they're fake. Here's a dealer's offering expressing similar qualms about a claimed vase by Deng (Link). Please note that this dealer has provided an incorrect date for Deng's death.

Also, I attach below some images of a covered box allegedly painted by Deng and with a two-character mark of Bishan. I've had it for almost a dozen years and have yet to authenticate it. I'd suggest you be wary of your plaque.

Best regards,

Bill H.
