Subject:Repair of Japanese scroll painting
Posted By: Bert Thu, Sep 02, 2021 IP: 143.167.254.173

Dear forum members,

I am looking for a company that would be able to professionally and authentically repair Japanese scroll paintings prefarably in the US (I have a few that would benefit from some TLC). When I recently looked at the webpage of Robin Buntin in Hawaii it looked like they have closed their business. I found a company in Japan, but shipping items and communicating may be more difficult and error prone. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Best regards,
Bert

Reach out to the conservation studios of major museums. I know of people who have had works mounted by staff at the Cleveland Museum of Art, for example.

I am told they are expensive, however. What is the nature of the damage that needs repair? Sometimes simple fixes can make a big improvement, other times you need major reconstruction to fix things that look like minor damage.

I'm not sure if they restore what you need but check with Fagan Art Restoration in Dallas. I had good luck with them on porcelain and paintings.
