It is Chinese from Jingdezhen

五良太甫 - Wuliang Dafu
吴祥瑞造 - Wu Xiangrui Made
In Japanese reading,
Gorō Taiho
Go Shonzui-zō

There are several contradicting explanations regarding the origin of Wuliang Dafu name, which in Japanese reads Goro Taiho
1, Gorō Taiho was a Japanese potter who went to Jingdezhen to learn pottery at the end of Ming Dynasty and then returned to Japan to set up a kiln in Imari.
2,He was a mid Edo period trader who imported
Wu Xiangrui (Go Shonzui) porcelain to Japan
(This is a more plausible version)

Wu Xiangrui (Go Shonzui) 吴祥瑞 also needs some explanation.
Wu is the name of historical state that included Jingdezhen. In Japan Wu 吴 is called Go and in many cases it refers to whole China.
Xiangrui's 祥瑞 meaning in Chinese and Japanese is "Auspicious sign" i.e "Chinese Auspicious Signs (Motifs)"
This also supports the export ware nature originally.

I hope the above explanation is understandable enough.

With regards,
I.Nagy
