Subject:Qing lacquer dish?
Posted By: Geoff Thu, Jun 24, 2021 IP: 2a00:23c7:ed05:7400: I must stop collecting things just because I find them interesting! This is my first piece of Chinese (?) lacquer ware...supposedly from the Qianlong dynasty; C18th. 29cm diameter. |

Posted By: robert Tue, Jun 29, 2021 The decoration looks press-moulded rather than carved. This seems to have started in the late 19th or early 20th century. Is it heavy or light in weight? Most press-moulded pieces seem to have been made on a core of soft, heavy metal like pewter or lead. In contrast, lacquer wares on a wood base should be very light. |
