Subject:Tongzhi Marked Lidded Pot
Posted By: Peter Fri, Jun 25, 2021 IP: 77.119.217.130

I've yesterday acquired this lidded pot, standing c. 15cm high and bearing what I believe to be a four character Tongzhi mark.
However, as the facial characteristics of the figures are somewhat different from what I have been led to believe are typical for Tongzhi period (eg 'hollow' eyes, etc.), I suspect that the piece was probably made after the Tongzhi reign.
Would any experts out there be willing to give their own views on this ?

Many thanks indeed !!!

Obviously has a stamped rather than hand-written seal mark. When during the Qing dynasty did they start using stamped seal marks on porcelains?
