Subject:Inscribed Enamel Painted Snuff Bottle, Translation Please
Posted By: Kevin Donnelley Sat, Jun 26, 2021 IP: 69.120.217.178

Hi All,

An elaborately decorated celadon glass bottle, faceted, 20th C. The recessed oval foot carries a four character Qianglong nian- zhi mark in blue.
Together w/ inscriptions, the painted enamel landscape and scholar scenes of the two main sides might be allegorical references to a famous story or poem.

Unusually marked w/ several seals in red where typically there are none on bottles in this genre.

Hoping to learn a translation of the characters and possibly the artist, studio or school

H: 2 7/8"; 7.3 cm
Thank you for looking

Kind regards,

Kevin

A side,
空山新雨后 天氣晩來秋
After a rain in the empty mountain,
the air was clear, and at dusk there was a sign of autumn
Citation from Wang Wei's poem titled "Autumn Eevening in the Mountains" (王維 - 山居秋暝)
澄心堂 - Cheng Xin Tang - Hall of Clear Heart - Studio name ?
(Name of palace where Li Bian -889-943 - the first emperor of Southern Tang used to live)
旭之 - Xuzhi - Art name of artist
Starting seal: 山高 - Shangao
Last seal,
旭之 - Xuzhi

B side,

山色空蒙翠欲流 長江清澈一天秋
The mountains are full of mist, and the greenery seems to overflow
The blue sky and the mountains are reflected by the clear Yangtze River water, it is an autumn scenery
(Citation from the Song Dynasty painter and poet Qian Xuan's poem titled "Autumn River Waiting for Ferry" (錢選 - 秋江待渡)
澄心堂 - Cheng Xin Tang
旭之 - Xuzhi
The first seal behind the signature reads,
旭之 - Xuzhi
The other two seals are illegible

With regards,
I.Nagy
