Posted By: Tereza Šenkeříková Thu, Jun 17, 2021 IP: 88.103.235.192

Hello,

could somebody help me with the identification of this ivory? Probably Meiji period. Does somebody know this signature? (14cm high)

Thank you
Tereza

Hi Teresa,
A most delightful looking ivory carving you have posted. Beautifully and expertly rendered.
I dont know the artist. The carving style and quality is certainly in my opinion Meiji period 1868-1912.
Hope you enjoy it. I would if I owned it. Would look stunning in the right atmosphere.
Regards,
Mark

Oh, thank you a lot! It is probably not so good known artist, he has almost no biography online. But it helps me. Thanks from Prague, Czech Republic :)

Thank you for the compliment! I am searching for our antique shop in Prague. The okimono is not mine, it is possible to buy it in Antiques Cinolter in Prague :) https://antiquesprague.cz/en/search?s=okimono

About 1200€ (depends on the currency).

Thank you. Was just curious as to the price.
The price is the imo the full retail price. If you could get it for under €1000 it would be OK if you like myself, really like it.
If it was in a auction setting given its size, condition and subject matter it would in my opinion sell for €500+.
Remember if you do buy it to always keep it in a cool place so it won't crack. Also have near by a small thimble of water.
Obviously, these carvings cannot be exported due to the world wide ban on ivory. This has impacted the prices.
Regards,
Mark@imperial
