Subject:Japanese Sashimono? inscription help

Hi,
I was hoping someone here might be able to provide me with some insight into just what these three large flags might be.
I've heard that they're both Sashimono and Buddhist (from two different sources).
One of them bears this inscription. My kanji being quite poor, I think I can make out May 4th year of Keio which would be around 1868 and the Boshin war, if my calculations are correct which would seem to support the theory of it being a sashimono.
If someone else could help be with the rest of the text however, I would be grateful.
Regards,
I edited the image to try and make the writing easier to read.
