Subject:Chinese ink painting subject and inscription
Posted By: Vicky Thu, Apr 29, 2021 IP: 2a02:c7d:f206:b900:7

Can anyone tell me anything about this ink painting, who is represented and the meaning? Also it would be great to have a translation of the inscription. Much appreciated.

It is Japanese,
Inscription,
享保七壬寅二月吉日
On an Auspicious Day of February of the 7th - Water-Tiger - Year of the Kyōhō Era (1722)

What we can see below the above inscription is not a signature, but smeared images of characters written on the back side of paper.

The picture is depicting Daikokuten 大黒天 one of the seven gods of luck in Japan. The smiling god is rising the magic mallet in his right hand, and holding the lucky bag in his left hand while sitting on rice bales put on the back of a buffalo.

With regards,
I.Nagy
