Subject:Help with deciphering this seal
Posted By: Jack Fri, Apr 16, 2021 IP: 112.199.211.36

Been trying to decipher this seal for ages. Anyone has any clue or tools to help with this? Particularly with the character on the right bottom corner. I barely can make out the rest but even then I'm not even sure about it. From the top right, i think it reads 火 ? 石 间. Can somebody help?

This leisure seal reads:

水信石穿

Possibly something like "water can wear away stone"

Sorry, I misread the second character it should be Di 滴 meaning a drop of liquid.

Hasn't really changed the meaning, but it's important to have the right character here.

水滴石穿

Thank you very much for deciphering this seal. Wondering if you know who might be the artist associated with this seal? I can't find much online. The closest I could find that is remotely similar to this seal is Lin Zexu (林则徐).

Is there any carving on the side of the stone? This is where we are more likely to discover the carver's name and the date of carving. Style alone is no true indication of the author, many carvers have carved seals in styles of great historical artists. It's not that hard to do.

Unfortunately no. I only have the seal on the painting. Is there any software or tools that I can use to decipher the seal? Been searching online but can't find any.

Meanwhile I have another collector seal for deciphering if you are up to it.

Thanks,
