Does anybody Know what this is
It measures about 24x38 inch
It is in excellent condition
It seems that the drawings are lithographs but the lettering seems to be hand done.

The text is the "The Imperial Restcript on Education" by
Emperor Meiji, promulgated in 1890.
This script is a reproduced and illustrated form of the version calligraphed by General Nogi (Nogi Maresuke)
Colophon,
源希典謹書 - Carefully written by Gen Maresuke
(Gen (Genji 源氏) is used because his family descended from the Sasaki branch of Genjis)

Illustrations (From right top down) are explaining the text,
1,
我ガ皇祖皇宗 - Our Imperial Ancestors
2,
國ヲ肇ルコト - have founded the Empire
3,
宏遠ニ - on a broad and far-reaching basis
4,
徳ヲ樹ツルコト - and have firmly implanted virtue
etc.

You can find the translation of "The Imperial Rescript on Education" on Google.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Illustrated versions are not unusual at all. They have appeared in many editions as an appendix to newspapers until the 1910s.
