Subject:Japanese bowl or centerpiece?
Posted By: Nancy Fri, Mar 12, 2021 IP: 2601:80:4203:8b40:4d

Hi, This Japanese bowl is from my mom's collection. I'm hoping for information of approximate age or maker. Thanks for looking!

Hi,

The item you have there is a typical Satsuma porcelain piece. These were made a lot for Western tourists and export from the mid-19th century onwards. My guess would be that your example is a later work.

Unfortunately, the mark appears to be smudged and blurry but I think I can make out some western characters? If so, then it would place it at post 1920s.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

In my opinion this mark reads TT (in the middle) and around that HANDPAINT MADE IN JAPAN, see my picture.

TT was a porcelain company in Japan named the "Takito Company" (TT = Taki To = Waterfall porcelain).
Takito company (1880-1948) is mostly known as one of those specializing on lusterware type of decoration and made among others tableware with decoration in "Moriage à la Kyoto" Satsuma on porcelain, like this here.

I agree with Suzume, 1920's / 1930's.
Regards,
Martin.

Mark: "T T" in two rectangles. Date: probably late 20s to early 1930s. Company name is Takito 1880-1948
