Subject:Transcription of Commentary on Itō Chūta Sketch 463
Posted By: Irwin Wed, Jul 15, 2026 IP: 174.127.209.134

Transcription of Tokutomi Iichirō's 德富猪一郞commentary, signing in part as Sohō? 蘇峯, on Itō Chūta's sketch titled "The Breakup of Turkey" 土國分裂 would be appreciated. The bottom characters of column 1 have me guessing.
Partial transcription is: Column 1 可憐???
Column 2: 月今作俎
Column 3: 上魚
Date: 辛酉春日
Signature: 蘇峯 followed by two unread characters
Reading of gourd-shaped cartouche would be appreciated
Top square shaped seal reading ??
Bottom square shaped seal reading 蘇峰
With thanks,

土國分裂
可憐天迷月
今作爼上魚
辛酉春日
蘇峯題

Dokoku no bunretsu
Karen nari tenmei no tsuki
ima sojō no uo to naru
Kanoto tori shunjitsu
Sohō-dai

The Breakkup of Turkey
How pitiable is the moon, wandering aimlessly through the sky、
Now, like a fish on a cutting board (its fate lies in the hands of others)
Year of Metal-Rooster (1921) Spring Day
Inscripton by Sohō

Gourd shaped starting seal,
不恵軒 Fukeiken
Study of a foolish person who lacks wisdom (Probably the name of his study - carries a sense of humility)

Upper seal,
猪 I ‐from 猪一郎
Lower seal,
蘇峰 Sohō

I've transcribed the reading (kundoku) of the Sino-Japanese text above. In this text, I read
作 (saku) as naru, because it
fits the text better.

Regards,
I.Nagy
