I’m hoping to learn more about this carved Chinese wedding bed.
There are no screws or metal brackets in the construction and is assembled using traditional joinery.
1. Does this appear to be an authentic Chinese canopy/wedding bed or a later decorative reproduction?
2. Approximately what period and region do you think it was made?
3. The maroon finish appears to be painted over the original. Would it be advisable to attempt to uncover the earlier finish, or would that likely do more harm than good?
4. Based on what you see, what would you estimate as a fair market value in its current condition?
