Subject:more on hyakubei money tree
Posted By: francis minvielle Mon, Apr 27, 2026 IP: 82.226.118.25

I attached two annotated close up of the top of the money tree print. I read there is a series of days in several lines, and below each line some amount of money (mons?). I do not understand the rationale behind this money amounts that I have figured out in colors on the print.
Can you help me understand?

Basically it is the wheat and chessboard problem adapted to 30 days and Japanese coinage.I believe that neither the artist nor the viewer intends to read the numbers—which are already written in a row—as accurately as possible. The key is in the long sequence of numbers.
For example in the case of day 25
17,476 x 264 Mon
in case of day 26
34,952 x 532 Mon
Otherwise, I don't understand either the point of increasing the doubled number by 4 twice in a row of tens. Anyway, math isn't my strong suit.
Here the 〆 mark corresponds to our x mark.

In the meantime, I’ve looked into the issue a bit more closely. In light of this, I need to revise my answer to the aboves. First of all, the character 〆 (Hitoshime) means 1,000 coins tied together with a string.
In case of
Day 10 = 532
Day 11 = 1 〆 + 64 = 1064 Mon
Day 25 = 17,476 〆 + 264 = 17,476,264 Mon
Day 26 = 34,952 〆 + 532 = 34,952,532 Mon

I.Nagy
