Subject:Japanese Bowl Kenzan?
Posted By: Roger Fri, Mar 07, 2025 IP: 71.205.135.53

Hello,
I would appreciate some help identifying this bowl. I believe it to be by the Edo Period artist Ogata Kenzan but not sure. Please note the calligraphy in the glaze on the bottom. Thank you!

I do not know precisely, as I am just a Japanese language student... but Kenzan's works seem slightly different in theme and final composition.

That said, I couldn’t see the signature clearly. If it’s written as 山乾 (Yama Ken - "Zanken", which is a possible reading...the opposite of Kenzan - which is more or less common), it could be a hint. However, this alone doesn’t prove it’s a Kenzan piece. Only an expert could confirm this with certainty.

Best regards,
Renato"
