I would really appreciate assistance in translating the attached calligraphy. I recently purchased the art piece to add to my collection. Thank you so much for your assistance. Ed

It seems to be a vintage copy of a stele rubbing.
Colophon reads,
翰林學士解縉紳書
Calligraphed by Xie Jinshen, Member of the Hanlin Academy
Seal,
王堂學士 Wangtang xueshi - Court scholar

Xie Jin 解縉 a.k.a. Xie Jinshen 解縉紳 1369-1415
Calligrapher, painter and scholar during the Ming dynasty.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Mr. Nagy,
No response necessary on my earlier email. I reread your email more carefully and it’s clear what you were saying regarding the seal. My apology. Ed

Mr. Nagy,
Thank you so much for your assistance. Very helpful. Just to confirm that the original calligraphy was done by Xie Jinshen, 1369 - 1415. Per your response, the rubbing is possibly vintage, a copy of a steel rubbing. Question, who was Wangtang Xueshi, court scholar that you mentioned and his relationship to either the calligrapher or the individuals responsible for the rubbing or copy of the rubbing? The copy is quite large and the mounting has damages, water stains, holes, areas that are torn and one end of the dowel stick is missing. We are considering having the piece remounted. Again, your help is sincerely appreciated. Ed

Dear Ed,
Wangtang xueshi was most probably the art-name of the calligrapher.

With regards,
I.Nagy
