Subject:Lets turn our attention to cursive kanji from UtagawaToyohiro?
Posted By: Renato Thu, Jan 16, 2025 IP: 177.140.12.187

Hi you guys,

I've been making an effort to understand Ukiyo-e and Surimono inscriptions.
I have here a cursive kanji from Utagawa Toyohiro. Maybe you can provide some hints on it.

Something like:
東都八景 – Toto Hakkei - Eight Views from East Capital

帰帆 – Kihan – (i t could be: “帰帆 Manpan 帰帆 Kihan” - returning sails at full capacity?)

「八左衛門島」Hachizaemonjima
...but this is all I could figure out...

I asked for information about the temple where Toyohiro is buried and where they keep this work, but they haven't answered yet.

Thank you for your attention.
Hugs from Brazil
Renato

東都八景 Toto Hakkei
帰帆 Kihan

眞帆かけてあかしにあらぬ
かくれ行おしおくりふね
八左衛門島

Maho kakete akashi ni aranu
kakureyuku oshiokuri fune
Hachizaemon-jima

With fully raised sails
shrouded in twilight
ply the oshiokuri boats*
Hachizaemon Island

* Small high-speed sailing boats

Note, alternative kanas for technical reason are represented in their modern forms.

With regards,
I.Nagy
