Subject:Modern or Archaic Jade
Posted By: Andy Wed, Jan 15, 2025 IP: 136.34.225.208

Hello,

Would any of you experts be able to tell me more about this jade pendant, specifically pinpoint the age? It looks as if it's from the Warring States Period but wondering if this is a modern reproduction? Does the calcification and scratch abrasive marks look to be from quarts sand/chisel and from that time period or from modern machines? Its not perfectly round and the brownish edge is roughly 6.4mm thick and .05mm thicker than the green edge. Overall it measures a little over 72mm in width. I am unable to scratch it with steel. Thanks in advance.

Indeed, your suspicion is correct, aged to look old,
Time to look at some Jade books.

Thanks Ernest appreciate your expertijade. I have no doubts about it being Nephrite but had doubts on its age. Do you think there is any age to this what so ever? Could it be from the ming dynasty or at least a few hundred years old? Or do you think its less than 50 years old? Attaching a few more close up picks for you to see. Also what jade books do you recommend? I am interested in learning more about Archaic jades. Is there any particular book? Thanks Again
Andy

Hi Andy,
This is a modern carving that has been treated to make it look old.
The tooling used is modern tooling.
