Subject:Late Edo Bizen tsubo?
Posted By: Christopher Mon, Jan 13, 2025 IP: 185.172.53.19 This tsubo (height about 16 inches) is described as late Edo Bizen ware. Does this seem reasonably accurate, for both fabric and date? Can anyone offer an opinion based on these few photos? Many thanks! |

Posted By: Robert Fri, Jan 17, 2025 Not necessarily. Potters at other old kilns, for example, Shigaraki and Tanba (Tamba), started using applied glazes in the Edo period; whereas before Edo the potters relied on accidental kiln ash (fly ash) to "decorate" their pots. |
