Subject:Miniature Korean maebyeong vase
Posted By: richard tomlinson Mon, Jan 13, 2025 IP: 180.150.81.44

Hi all,

Just sold at auction. TINY .... It's only 5 inches in height!

Looks old enough but is it? Purpose? Sample? Weird piece.

Would love to hear expert opinions.

Regards
Richard Tomlinson

Hi. The Cleveland Museum of Art has a miniature (ca. 4.5 inches high) Korean celadon jar from the Goryeo period (circa 12th c), which they describe as a burial or funerary object. Perhaps your miniature wine bottle was made for the same purpose.
