Subject:Kangxi or Edo? Blue and White Porcelain Charger Lobed Rim
Posted By: Brad Wed, Dec 11, 2024 IP: 107.139.184.40

I’m stuck on this piece. There are areas that point that this is Japanese, but also possibly Chinese. The positioning of the kiln spurs, the exposed clay emits green under a UV light possibly showing Feldspar, the foots shape and the way the glaze is equally rounded at the bottom of the foot makes me think Chinese. The lobed rim looks like an export piece. The chenghua marking was used by both Japanese and Chinese during the 18th century. I’m just stuck on this piece. My mind wants me to believe it’s Chinese, but reality always has different plans.

On my opinion it's Japanese circa late Edo period.
