Subject:Chinese ? Ceramic

I've been trying to learn the origin of this piece for some time without success.

Is this small ceramic figurine Chinese, maybe Japanese? It was suggested it may have been used as a chopstick holder. But I've no idea and would appreciate any help.

The figurine is hollow, measures roughly 2" wide and 1 1/8" tall. It weighs 0.9 ounces.

Say shape, dimension, weight, there is nothing but a Japanese vintage chopstick rest.
