Subject:Kunisada II watercolour?
Posted By: Steve Dickson Sun, Nov 17, 2024 IP: 94.194.214.205

Hi, An ink note on the rear of this picture states that it's by Kunisada II from his Tale of Genji Chap. XI. But the seal does not match the Kunisada II seal which I found online. It apears to be a watercolour rather than a woodblock print. The image measures 24 x 27 cm. If anyone can help identify the seal and/or signature I'd be very grateful. Many thanks, Steve

Dear Mr Nagy, Many thanks for your help. Is it possible to understand from the context whether 'reproduction' here would mean a hand-painted copy or a mechanical reproduction? The white circular ripples appear to have been hand-painted - the texture of the paint being visible. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks again, Steve

It must be copy by the artist.

Thanks again Mr Nagy. That's good news - I had hoped that might be the case. Best wishes, Steve
